Maple's Boxing Day Adventure: A Dachshund's Perspective

Christmas with Maple

Morning Mayhem: Unwrapping the Leftovers

Ah, Boxing Day. The humans are still groggy from yesterday’s festivities, but not Maple. No, no - our little dachshund dynamo woke up with one thing on her mind: leftovers. Her nose twitched before her eyes even opened. “Turkey. Sweet potatoes. Something cheesy!” she thought, her tail already wagging at a dangerous speed.

Before anyone could say, “Good morning,” Maple was in the kitchen, sniffing every nook and cranny like a detective on a mission. Then she spotted it: a glorious pile of leftover wrapping paper. Forget the turkey for a second—this was prime dachshund entertainment. She pounced, sending shiny scraps flying like confetti. “This is what the humans call enrichment, right?” she thought proudly, gnawing on a particularly festive bow.

Afternoon Excitement: The Guest Parade

Fast forward to the afternoon, and the doorbell rang. Maple’s ears perked up. “Intruders? Or better yet... new friends?”she wondered, launching herself toward the door like a furry torpedo.

As the humans opened the door, Maple took on her role as Official Greeter with gusto. Each guest was met with a wagging tail, an excited bark, and an unspoken demand: “Pet me. Now.” Maple quickly identified her favourite guest—the one who “accidentally” dropped a piece of plain turkey within paw’s reach.

From that point on, she was their shadow. Every step they took, Maple followed, her eyes filled with hope. “If they dropped turkey once, they might do it again. Humans are clumsy like that,” she reasoned. She even tried to climb onto one guest’s lap, clearly intrigued by their festive sweater covered in pom-poms. “Are these chew toys? For me? You shouldn’t have!” she thought, pawing gently at the colourful spheres.

Evening Bliss: Treats and Cuddles

By the evening, Maple’s tireless energy was finally rewarded. Her humans prepared a special Boxing Day feast just for her: shredded turkey, mashed sweet potatoes, and a dollop of plain yogurt. As the bowl hit the floor, Maple’s eyes widened. “This... this is what dreams are made of,” she thought, savouring every bite like a food critic at a Michelin-star restaurant.

Full and thoroughly satisfied, Maple waddled over to her brand-new bed—a Christmas gift she had immediately claimed the day before. She curled up in her favourite blanket, letting out a contented sigh. “A cosy bed, a full belly, and my humans nearby. I’ve really got these people trained well,” she thought, her tail wagging one last time before she drifted off to sleep.

Reflections of a Dachshund

As the house grew quiet and the lights dimmed, Maple reflected on her day. “Boxing Day is basically the best thing ever. We should definitely do this every day. I’ll bring it up at the next family meeting,” she decided, before succumbing to a turkey-induced nap.

Conclusion

Boxing Day, through Maple’s eyes, was a whirlwind of excitement, tasty treats, and pure dachshund joy. It’s a reminder that the holidays are best enjoyed with a healthy dose of mischief and a very full tummy.
